Somerset Road is a residential road which provides a link from Harborne to the canal towpath into Birmingham. This could provide safe route for cyclists but it is currently busy with either queuing traffic at rush hour or speeding traffic at other times. Something has to be done to provide a safe cycle route from Harborne to the city centre. Closing Somerset Road would provide a low traffic cycle route from Harborne to the canal - whilst it might be inconvenient for some motorists - there are alternative routes using more major roads.
