[Newer image see: #170576] [Image taken 8.3.21] Just three of the potholes on Shipton Street, York between its junction with Pembroke and Newbrough Streets. From left: 36 x 34 x 4.5cm; 48 x 52 x 2cm; 29 x 68 x 3cm. On 4.3.21 Shipton Street was number "639 out of a possible 3093 carriageway schemes" ie on the list of streets to be re-tarmaced. Meanwhile people on cycles have to pick their way through the damage. Despite the short distance, 90m, I am on this road, I have also experienced 'bullying' by a driver. It was daylight, excellent visibility and I was the only other vehicle on the road. Both sides of the street are parked on making the carriageway narrow goo.gl/maps/FoSL1FPkg4UjcpLK8 I was moving slowly trying to avoid the damage and a driver came up behind me very fast thereby forcing me to 'get out of the way'. Another reason people who cycle in built-up areas need smooth undamaged surfaces.
