The EmbrunMan is an XXL triathlon (ie Ironman) held every year on 15 August in Embrun - after a 3.8km swim there's this 188km bike ride via the Col de l'Izoard (a total of 5,000m climbing) and then a 42.195 km run (ie a marathon). There were around 900 contestants in 2022. The road over the col is closed southbound but open for motor vehicles in the same direction as the race - but some cyclists and even some cars were coming down in the wrong direction. It's pretty scary!
